Training Requirements & Links
All coaches (head and assistant coaches) are required to complete ALL the requirements below in order to coach and for USA hockey to approve a team roster.
Please retain any certificates just in case we need verification. There is no need to forward any copies at this time.

STEP 1: obtain a usa hockey number
Registration with USA hockey is required every season and you must have a valid USA Hockey number before you are added to a USA hockey roster. New registrations start on April 1.
STEP 2: Create Account in USA Hockey Course System
Coaches must complete a USA hockey coaching clinic (offered by MidAm or USA Hockey) by December 31st. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1.
All coaches must register and complete a USA hockey coaching clinic as part of the Coaching Education Program (CEP). Once Level 4 is achieved, coaches will need to complete 5 credit hours of continuing education within each subsequent three-year period (does not apply is you received Level 4 prior to 1/1/2021.
STEP 4: COMPLETE BACKGROUND SCREEN
A background screen is required every TWO seasons (not calendar years) and must be completed.
STEP 5: Safesport Training
SafeSport is required every season. You must complete all sections.
STEP 6: Age Specific Module
Coaches must complete the age specific module for the age group (10U, 12U, 14U and/or 16U) you will be coaching.
If you are coaching more than one age group, you will need to complete the ASM for each age group.
STEP 7: Concussion Awareness Training
Concussion training is required every three years and is required by the State of Ohio. Coaches must complete concussion awareness training through NFHS; please do not enroll in similar courses. Please register and complete the ‘Concussion in Sports’ course. Save your certificate to submit to the registrar upon request.
STEP 8: Lindsay's Law
Coaches must review the Sudden Cardiac Awareness information the State of Ohio every year. Ohio law, Revised Code 3707.58, states that coaches of an athletic activity organized by a youth sports organization shall complete, on an annual basis, the sudden cardiac arrest training course approved by the department of health. Coaches must review the Ohio Department of Health's video and SCA Information for the Coach.
