Parents Code of Conduct

As a parent / guardian of an Columbus Cannons player, I hereby pledge to conduct myself in a manner that complies with the “Zero Tolerance Policy” of USA Hockey.


I pledge to:

  • Show respect for the players, coaches, officials, other parents, and spectators.
  • Demonstrate and encourage good sportsmanship and the concept of fair play.
  • Uphold the essential elements of USA Hockey’s Zero Tolerance Policy, in an effort to make ice hockey a more desirable and rewarding experience for all participants.
  • Promote and support the Player Code of Conduct Agreement, including but not limited to its emphasis on good sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Observe the 24-hour rule:  No parent / guardian or relative of any CCYHA player, in a fit of frustration/anger over a player’s ice time/position, coaches’ play of a player, and/or team status per our tryout policy will contact the coaching staff, manager, hockey director or any other member of the Executive Board within 24 hours of incident or game. This includes by email, phone call, text message, written/typed letters, or any other social media avenue.
  • Support a drug and alcohol free environment.


Further, I pledge NOT to:

  • Use obscene or vulgar language to anyone at any time.
  • Publicly criticize players, coaches, or game officials.
  • Taunt players, coaches, officials, or other spectators by means of baiting, ridiculing, or threat of physical violence.
  • Throw any object in the spectator viewing area, player bench, penalty box, or on the ice surface.
  • Engage in any other physical aggression toward a player, coach, official, or spectator.
  • Use a cell phone or other electronics with recording capabilities, including voice recording, still cameras and video cameras in the locker room or bathroom.


Consequences for Code of Conduct Violations

Depending on facts and circumstances, consequences due to violation(s) of the above may range from probation or suspension of the parent / guardian, and possibly the player, from Cannon events (including team events, practices, games, tournaments), to expulsion from the Columbus Cannons.

Any concern brought to the Disciplinary Committee may be referred for a hearing if warranted. Past concerns may be taken into account by the Disciplinary Committee. The Executive Board and Hockey Director will notify the individual(s) in writing after a disciplinary hearing (if necessary), outlining the sanction that is being set forth. This will be done in a timely manner.
